Umbraco and it's AI integration, how optional will it really be?

I was looking at the roadmap a few days ago and it seem there is a lot of AI stuff coming down the pipeline and as I am already dealing with issues of a slow backoffice it got me thinking about how the AI integration would now make things slower and the potential the my host might have to incrase system resources to deal with the new AI componantes whith the increase cost assoicated possibly (probibily) being passed to me. Now I get it that a lot of people are hoping on the AI bandwangon and I am not against it’s prooper usage but for my bussiness and the sites I run AI has no use within Umbraco for me.

With that in mind I was digging around to try and get a better understanding of how the AI system will be integrated. I did find the offical Umbraco and AI - Adopt AI Without Losing Control page and it mentions on there that it will be model and “no bundeled or forced featurs” but I can’t really find anything beyond that. Does anyone know how the AI system is going to be integrated with Umbraco? Is it going to exist as an add-on package like commerce, forms, and other HQ backed systems or is it more going to be an on/off toggle via either code or backoffice configuration?

Speaking as part of the CMS team, we have zero plans to integrate AI directly into the CMS. Any AI integrations will be optional via an extension, namely the Umbraco.AI package.

As Lee said, Umbraco.AI is released as a package and so is completely optional. If you don’t want any AI features in Umbraco then you don’t need to install the package at all. If you want some features and not others we’ve tried to break this up into sub packages so that you can pick and choose what is available.

There is no intention to merge this into the CMS product and force AI upon anyone. The choice is completely yours/your customers.

Thank you both for your answers. When I was reading the Umbraco AI page, it felt like it was going to be an addon, and I am glad that feeling is correct.
