We are using Umbraco v17.7.1 and have noticed that loading child items in the Content section is significantly slower compared to our previous Umbraco 13 implementation.
In Umbraco 13, the same type of content structure loaded much faster.
Could you please advise whether this is a known performance issue in Umbraco v17.7.1, or whether there are recommended configurations/optimizations for child-item list views with custom columns and variant content?
Can you see what is happening in the Network tab in the browser Developer Tools? Is it pulling down lots of files and just slow? Does the same happen locally? What are your custom columns doing and how many child items exist in the collection?
There have been lots of improvements for performance in the new backoffice, but I know it can be slower than it used to be due to the number of requests it makes.
Below endpoint is taking longer time to load the 1366 child items.
Endpoint:
umbraco/management/api/v1/collection/document/c9a12a3e-1d40-4cc1-8745-6871b863267f?dataTypeId=&orderBy=name&orderCulture=en-US&orderDirection=Ascending&skip=0&take=400
Can you drop the page size to 50 and see if that helps? You are asking for 400 child items for each page which will take time to pull everything it needs from the database.
