Ok and as soon as I post this, I dig around a bit more and looks like I’ve found a fix.
Enable inline editing on the Block List property editor. Also set the Appearance to have label above rather than to the left.
Then within the markdown block also put the label above.
This prevent the fly-out and puts the editor in to full width.
