Maybe there’s a slightly more friendly alternative to the “basic” badge?
lol
sure, what do you suggest?
Here’s all the available badges by the way, haven’t touched the built-in ones like “Basic” yet: Umbraco community forum
Explorer, Rookie, Newcomer?
The badge description is to do with permission levels it seems.
This badge is granted when you reach trust level 1. Thanks for sticking around and reading a few topics to learn what our community is about. New user restrictions have been lifted; you’ve been granted all essential community abilities, such as personal messaging, flagging, wiki editing, and the ability to post multiple images and links.
I like your suggestion @sebastiaan of Explorer
or Newcomer
perhaps to replace this naming of basic for permission.
Also not sure what I have done, probably just tested enough here to get to level 2 and got a bot message and a link to trust levels.
Maybe a useful reference Seb?
I like explorer too, though maybe needs to be thought of in the scheme of all the “Trust” badges - I think the tone of them generally is a rather less Umbraco (friendly/community vibe) than it could be.
I, for one, welcome our regular overlords
How about:
- Basic → Explorer
- Member → Friend
- Regular → Committed
- Leader → Champion
They’re a bit difficult, I want to call them all: Umbracian
Maybe Umbracian level 1-4 but I’m not a big fan of classifying how “much” of an Umbracian you are.

Do we even need the badges & levels at all related to this?
Is there a need to display different levels for us all, for me I don’t really care if you been using forum loads or posted the first time.
For me who has a different level atm, I assume I can’t actually do anything different than someone who just started out?!
It’s just part of the system and it doles out more and more capabilities over time based on how much you’re using various forum features. So yes, we will have them.
OK all good, didn’t know if it was a useful thing or could be turned off easily or not.
No big deal, I am sure ChatGPT and some more creative minds than myself, can come up with some friendly & Umbraco like labels/names for these things.
Seb, does Discourse support polls?
Might be an easy way to get people to give you a quick indicator on the names they prefer?!
I don’t think a poll will solve this, we just pick a few good names and try them out
Was trying to see if we had any other snazzy features at the same time. I’ll jump out the thread for now, as I have nothing useful to add anymore
taking a leaf out of UDUF’s book - how about “umbrakai” for Leader?
