Advanced Tutorial Step Issue

I just got the trust level promotion that allows me to take on the advanced tutorial

Maybe I’m just blind… but there’s a step where it asks you to change the notification level of the topic, but there is no button for notification level. I know what it looks like, as I use it for topics in the questions category, but it does not seem to exist for the tutorial :see_no_evil_monkey: There is only Share, Bookmark, and Reply.

Is this something that can be fixed..? Not that it’s terribly important or anything ^^

((sidenote: luvin’ that there’s a forum again ))

EDIT to say... I just got the follow-up reply from Discobot that the step is skippable (yay!) So modified topic a bit as this means the tutorial is not uncompletable ^^

I’ve had a quick look and it seems the button shows/hides at different breakpoints and once you scroll past a certain point it disappears entirely… :person_shrugging:

Full Screen:

After scrolling:

When the window is < 925px, you need to click on a little red box so see it, but it’s bugged.

Nice sleuthing!

I also just realized… what I thought was a ‘report thread’ button (so I didn’t click on it) was actually the notification settings xD I was looking for the version of the button that shows up at the bottom on every other topic, lol!

Perhaps that tutorial step could be fixed from saying “At the bottom of the topic…” to something indicating the “bell icon underneath the thread timeline – but normally it appears at the bottom of the topic”. Or something like that. Perhaps mentioning the mobile experience would be good too… I would have never guessed that red box was clickable. It has no interactive indicator.

It may also be a good idea to add some sort of title or tooltip text on that !-bell icon to display it’s name so others don’t misinterpret it as a report option.

Just FYI, we don’t have influence over the forum’ s tutorials, they’re baked into the software itself.

Gotcha. Though with a bug that makes something completely unusable on a fairly large range of screens I’d imagine there’s some place to report issues to for Discourse? At the very least what Jason found is more serious than some copy errors and miscommunication with icons.

I imagine certain elements get hidden to have the best experience on a large range of screens

The actions are still available under the last comment:

And yes, bugs can be reported at https://meta.discourse.org

Yus! I know the main big button appears for most topics at the bottom but it’s not in the tutorial or I would guess anything else that uses the same threading style (DMs?)

But perfect! Thank you for the link Sebastiaan :heart_exclamation:
And I hope y’all have a fantastic weekend! Thanks so much.

I totally missed that button. I think the tutorial highlights the one on the RHS, which is why I never noticed it. That makes much better UX sense!

Just following up to say Disourse has put in a PR for the fix ^^ And it seems to be a constantly reoccurring problem being that I found a topic from 2020 and it was reported this past February too

And the Advanced Tutorial does not at all mention the button on the RHS  It points people toward the one at the bottom which does not exist in the tutorial – that was my confusion haha! But at least one thing fixed so soon it should be possible to change tracking on tablets and smaller :+1:
